New Thing # 1 – No more resolutions, nail biting or crisps

Jan 9, 2010 |

The end of week one and, if I’m honest, its starting with a whimper rather than a roar. Because the website took slightly longer to set up than I thought, the first couple of posts have been done a little *ahem* retrospectively. Anyway, lets press on…

I decided to wrap up a couple of New Things into my first week. Firstly, and a little controversially, I’ve decided to give up making resolutions for good. Although I’ve had success in the past (not eaten MacDonalds for 2 years now but boy how I miss those Big Macs), its actually quite a negative way of leading your life. Resolutions should be positive things but they so often involve giving things up, doing enjoyable things less or worst of all, dieting. So I stopping making resolutions, something I’ve done every year for the last 15 years, is a fairly big New Thing for me.

The nail thing is a bit more obvious. Quite simply, I bite my nails. A lot. I chew them, I gnaw them, I attack them. Its not even a nervous thing, its just a hideous habit. I’ve tried to give up before but with laughably poor consequences so this year I’m making a proper effort to kick the habit once and for all, hopefully without the need for that vile stuff you paint on your nails or, even worse, hypnotherapy.

And finally crisps. Its not that I eat a lot of them, I just eat them quite a lot. They are just so damn delicious. Personal favourites in Pickled Onion Monster Munch and Original Doritos. They are salty, they are fatty and they go splendidly with a pint. But they are also a bit bad for you, despite what Gary Lineker says. So I think I’m going to try and stop eating them for good.

So there we go. A fairly menial blog post that hopefully will only get better. Honestly, I never thought I’d be sharing my thoughts about bloody Monster Munch with the world.

Onwards…

Give up crisps for good? I can’t condone this sick behaviour.
